I did this piece to test these instructions - at least the inlay part and lid fitting. This was done with a green cut limb of a neighbors silver maple tree so turning an integral finial with the lid wasn't a good idea - the thin area of the onion type finial would've been too tricky to turn in green wood. Turning a better proportioned finial would have been easier to do in the context of the actual piece were it turned as an integral part of the lid - taped to the box. But the thing being tested here was the inlay procedure. Seems to work pretty well - and that GREEN 3M tape provides good gripping power and does come off without leaving any glue residue behind.
